Abu Dhabi pharmacies get green light to administer COVID-19 PCR tests

There are five pharmacies in the emirate that will provide the service.

Abu Dhabi pharmacies will now have the authority to administer COVID-19 PCR tests, it has been announced.

Effective immediately, members of the public will be able to undergo testing for the coronavirus at Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) approved pharmacies for the price of AED 40.

The announcement from the DoH also revealed that approved pharmacies will also be able to administer Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines free of charge to those over 18-years-of-age.

Five pharmacies have successfully completed courses certified by DoH to administer vaccinations and PCR tests; Al Manara Pharmacy (Yas Mall); Al Thiqa Al Almyiah Pharmacy (Zayed The First St); Al Ain Pharmacy (Al Ain Mall); Al Ain Pharmacy (Al Hili); and Al Ain Pharmacy (Hazza’s Bin Zayed Stadium).

The new programme will eventually expand the offered services to include other types of vaccinations, such as the seasonal flu vaccine and various travel vaccines.

Currently, Abu Dhabi residents over the age of 16 must undergo a negative PCR test every 14 days in order to maintain a green pass on their Al Hosn app.

In order to achieve a green pass on their Al Hosn app, individuals must have received three shots of a DoH-approved COVID-19 vaccine.

The UAE maintains its global lead in COVID-19 vaccination rates, with 100 per cent of the population receiving the first dose and 98.1 per cent receiving two doses.
