In a move prioritising commuter safety, Dubai has announced a ban on e-scooters within the Metro and Tram facilities, effective from 1 March.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) aims to ensure a secure travel environment for passengers, emphasising the importance of responsible last-mile transport usage.

The RTA took to social media to communicate the ban, citing passenger safety as the primary concern. The official tweet stated, “To ensure your safety and that of others, the use of e-scooters inside Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram will be prohibited, starting Friday, March 1.”

In a proactive step towards enforcing these measures, authorities unveiled a surveillance robot designed to identify violations by users of bicycles and electric scooters.

This innovative robot, set to undergo trials from March onwards, is poised to play a crucial role in maintaining order and safety within public transportation spaces.

Complaints against e-scooter riders have been on the rise, with issues ranging from indiscriminate parking to blocking sidewalks and occupying parking slots in residential areas.
