Dubai to get over 70 more metro stations as part of major expansion plan

Dubai Metro Bird'S Eye View For 2030 Major Expansion Plan

Dubai will see the number of metro stations grow to 140 by 2040 as part of the major expansion plan

Dubai is about to see massive development in its 20-minute city plans with the announcement of this major expansion to the Dubai Metro.

The plan envisions expanding from 64 operational stations across 84 square kilometres currently to 96 stations covering 140 square kilometres by 2030.

By 2040, the initiative targets 140 stations spread over 228 square kilometres, signalling a comprehensive effort to enhance urban connectivity and sustainability in Dubai.

The Executive Council of Dubai has endorsed a strategic plan to develop areas surrounding Metro stations. The hope is to boost economic opportunities in these areas and increase public transport usage to 45 per cent, while also significantly reducing carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita.

While we’re still awaiting updates on the locations of the new stations, work has already been underway on the Dubai Metro Blue Line – which will stretch over a total of 30km, with 15.5 km running underground and 14.5 km above ground.

Currently, the Dubai Metro has two lines in operation. The Green Line stations are in Bur Dubai and Deira in the old town, while the recently updated Red Line connects the old city and airport to Downtown, Dubai Marina and Expo 2020 in the southwest.
