Dubai’s RTA announces ‘Golden Chance’ for expat drivers from these countries
Now it’s easier than ever to get a driving licence in Dubai.
Expats with an existing driver’s licence from their home country can now take a driving test in Dubai without taking any driving lessons, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The new regulation, called the “Golden Chance”, is already available in Abu Dhabi and is now being offered to motorists in Dubai.
“This is your Golden Chance to apply for a new driving licence without attending driving classes and get a direct road test via RTA’s website,” the RTA said in a statement posted on Twitter.

The RTA already allows driving licence holders from over 40 countries, including the US, UK, Israel, Japan and China, to obtain a UAE licence without taking any lessons or a driving test.
Residents from countries not on that list such as India, Pakistan and the Philippines previously had to take lessons and a driving test.
With the new regulations, driving licence holders from non-exempt countries now only need to fill out an online form or visit any accredited driving institute to submit the required documents and book a driving test.
The lure of the open road and offroad adventures has long captivated adventurers in Dubai and across the UAE. With easier access to a driving licence, more people can now embark on thrilling road trips in the emirate and beyond to explore its diverse cultural and tourism offerings.
