The new projects aim to ease traffic and boost safety throughout the city

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling up its sleeves for a busy summer, launching a major roadworks project across the city aimed at keeping traffic flowing smoothly.

The large-scale effort, which kicked off this June and will run through September, will see upgrades happening in 40 different spots across the emirate.

And don’t worry; the RTA says the work is carefully scheduled during the quieter summer months to minimise traffic disruption as much as possible.

What’s happening in Phase One?

First up: improvements across 22 key roads, nine school zones, more than five development areas, and local streets in neighborhoods like the Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, and Nad Al Sheba.

These upgrades are all about making your daily drive smoother and safer. Whether you’re commuting to work, school, or just heading out for a coffee, you might notice things running a little more efficiently.

Next on the list? Areas like Jumeirah Village Circle heading toward Hessa Street, Ras Al Khor Road, and Al Thanya Street are getting some TLC.

You’ll also see improvements on Al Meydan Street, Al Sa’ada Street, and around the Al Wasl and Al Manara Street junction.

The RTA is also targeting high-traffic areas to reduce bottlenecks and improve accessibility.

Focus on safer school zones

With student safety top of mind, the RTA is upgrading nine school zones. For instance, Al Warqa 1’s school complex is being refreshed, and GEMS Education in Al Warqa 3 will get a brand-new bus entrance.

Over in Al Safa 1, roads around The English College on Sheikh Zayed Road are being widened to ease congestion during drop-off and pick-up. And for better pedestrian safety, Al Seedaf Street in Al Barsha 1 is getting a new signal-controlled crossing.

Dubai’s booming population and fast-growing neighbourhoods are also on the RTA’s radar. New road links are being built in five major development zones.

These include:

A direct route to Al Muhaisnah labour camps from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road

An improved Al Mustaqbal Street (Brookfield) for smoother access to new communities

Better connections between Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street via Al Marabea Street

Upgrades at the Nad Al Hamar junction near the Lootah Mosque

And fresh parking facilities for the Zayed Educational Complex in Oud Al Muteena 1

Community upgrades and pedestrian safety

It’s not just the big roads getting attention. The RTA is also upgrading smaller, internal roads in areas like Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Al Warqa, Nad Al Sheba, and Al Khawaneej 2.

Meanwhile, over in Al Quoz Creative Zone, new pedestrian walkways are being added to help keep people safe while walking around the vibrant district.

So if you see a few detours or orange cones this summer, now you know why; it’s all part of a bigger plan to make Dubai’s roads more efficient, connected and safer.
