Dubai to launch autonomous vehicles in 2026

The city is getting ready driverless cars with exciting new trials

Dubai is cruising into the future; literally.

The city’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has teamed up with global autonomous vehicle pioneer Pony.ai to kick off pilot trials of self-driving cars.

These sleek, smart vehicles will start hitting the roads later this year, leading up to a full commercial rollout in 2026.

The move is a major gear shift in Dubai’s ambitious Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to make a quarter of all city trips fully autonomous by 2030.

Imagine getting around town without ever touching a steering wheel!

The high-tech vehicles, co-developed by Pony.ai and major automakers like Toyota, GAC, and BAIC, are equipped with cutting-edge AI and sensors, think lidars, radars, and ultra-clear cameras, designed to handle the city’s bustling roads with ease.

Pony.ai is also weaving its technology into popular apps like WeChat and Alipay, making it super easy for users to hail a robotaxi right from their phone.

With this exciting new chapter, Dubai is steering confidently into a smarter, smoother future, one where cars drive themselves, and traffic just might feel a little less stressful.

Buckle up, the future is on its way!
