Who’s the newest champ to debut at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship?

US Open semi-finalist and No.2 ranked player in the country, Frances Tiafoe is now here to make his Middle East debut against a fiery line-up.

The 14th edition of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship seems to be serving it and smashing it well in advance.

With a star-studded line-up of stellar players announced already, it’s just getting more exciting by the minute! This time, it’s Frances Tiafoe, the 2022 US Open semi-finalist and No.2-ranked player in the United States, all set to debut in the Middle East.

From 16-18 December at the International Tennis Centre in Zayed Sports City, organisers are working towards ensuring several action-packed matches.

Tiafoe, 24, is the latest to join A-list players including World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz, World No.3 Casper Ruud, and defending champion Andrey Rublev. Born in Sierra Leone and raised in humble surroundings in Maryland, USA, Tiafoe reached his highest world ranking – No.19 – last month after becoming the first American since 2006 to reach the final four at Flushing Meadows.

As a prodigious 15-year-old, Tiafoe scooped the 2013 Orange Bowl championship, widely regarded as being the sport’s most prestigious junior international competition. In doing so, he created history by becoming the youngest champion in boys’ singles – eclipsing the achievements of John McEnroe and Roger Federer.

While the list of accolades is seemingly endless, it was his 2021 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon that truly put him on the map. That was of course, before beating Rafael Nadal and Andrey Rublev a year later en route to the US Open semi-finals.

So far, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship has announced six of the world’s top male players and two of the best players in the women’s game to contest on the tournament’s opening day on December 16.

The Arabian Gulf’s leading tennis experience will also bring its traditional mix of festive fun, interactive activities, and player meet and greets.
