Free Abu Dhabi bus trips are now available for those taking part in this initiative

Each point will be accumulated on the Hafilat Personalised Bus Card.

You can now enjoy a free Abu Dhabi bus trip thanks to a new initiative launched by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department if Municipalities and Transport (DMT).

The ‘Points for Plastic: The Bus Tariff’ scheme will see public transport passengers obtain free bus trips by gaining points for the Hafilat Personalised Bus Card every time they hand in an empty plastic bottle at a plastics deposit machine in Abu Dhabi Bus Station.

The initiative which has been launched in cooperation with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre, Tadweer and DGrade, will see you gain one point for each singe small bottle (600ml or less) that you hand in with larger bottles exceeding 600ml earning you two points.

Each point equals 10 fils so 10 points equals AED 1.

The ITC automated payment system calculates the fare required for the trip and automatically deducts it from the cash value stored in the card via the tariff machines installed at bus entrances and exits.

It is the latest initiative in the city encouraging members of the public to cut down on waste and recycle.

EAD launched the BAADR app in February which sees users earn points that can be redeemed at participating restaurants for completing 20 eco-friendly tasks in their daily schedule.
