UAE passengers must self-isolate in UK

Move comes as new Omicron variant emerges.

Are you travelling home to the United Kingdom for the holidays?

Well, you are going to have to self-isolate upon arrival as the British Government has introduced mandatory quarantine for all visitors to the UK.

In a move that is expected to affect thousands of expat British living in Abu Dhabi and the UAE, all passengers including those who are fully vaccinated, will have to undertake a PCR test on day two of their arrival and self-isolate until a negative result is produced.

The news comes after the discovery of a new variant of the coronavirus, Omicron, in Southern Africa.

The UAE has already placed a travel ban on seven southern African countries because of the new variant and has now given the green light for all residents in the UAE to receive a third booster dose of the Covid-19 jab.

The authorities also reiterated residents’ need to follow all precautionary measures and advised members of the public to stay in the country rather than travel abroad for the holiday period.
