The new four-day working week in Dubai will only apply to certain employees of the Government for now

Could it really be happening?

Okay, these type of rumours have circulated before and we have all got our hopes up, but now it seems that authorities in Dubai are finally considering reducing the working week to four days.

Dubai is set to trial a four-day work week for select public sector employees as part of the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative.

This pilot scheme, running from 12 August to 30 September, will suspend work on Fridays and reduce the workday to seven hours for employees in 15 government entities, according to the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR).

Most government employees in Dubai currently enjoy a two-and-a-half-day weekend, but this initiative will extend their weekend for seven weeks.

The DGHR conducted a survey to gauge the willingness of government agencies to adopt this change, and the proposal received strong support.

The initiative aims to enhance workplace flexibility, ensure safety during the summer, and promote better work-life balance.

It is also expected to lower energy consumption in government offices. The DGHR will regularly evaluate the impact on employees and productivity, with a final report to be compiled on the initiative’s outcomes and recommendations.

Authorities have stated that the initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to empower human resources through smart solutions and innovative policies, enhancing the city’s competitiveness and quality of life.

The pilot supports directives from Dubai’s leadership to make the city the best place to live in the world.

Here’s hoping I suppose!
