On hold since 2008, the project has now been revived by the Dubai ruler to be twice as big as Palm Jumeirah
Ever wondered what happened to Palm Jebel Ali? Well, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has decided to complete it now!
Spanning an area of 13.4sqkm, the masterplan for the new development revealed a project designed to be twice the size of Palm Jumeirah.

The visionary project is being spearheaded by Nakheel and is in line with the UAE’s commitment towards sustainability.
From mixed-use walkable neighbourhoods to smart city technologies and sustainability practices, Palm Jebel Ali will provide a diverse range of mobility options for residents, visitors, and communities.
At least 30 per cent of the island’s energy requirements will be obtained from renewable sources. According to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the project will deliver “our vision to raise Dubai’s status as a leading global city”.
It’s also in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33’s goal to double the size of the city’s economy by 2033.
