Her Majesty reigned for 70 years.
Team Yalla is deeply saddened to share with you the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and our heartfelt thoughts are with her family at this time.
Having celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in February this year, Her Majesty was the longest-reigning British monarch and longest-serving female head of state.
Born in Mayfair on 21 April 1926, she ascended to the throne on 6 February 1952 at the age of 27 assuming the title of Elizabeth II.
Her Majesty was crowned in a magnificent ceremony on 2 June 1953.
In 1979, Her Majesty visited Abu Dhabi where she met students of the British School Al Khubairat (BSAK) and was given a tour of the school’s facilities. The late Queen Elizabeth returned to the capital of the UAE in 2010 where BSAK students serenaded Her Majesty at the unveiling of a plaque marking the construction of the Zayed National Museum on Saadiyat Island.
With a passion for charity, Her Majesty was patron to more than 600 charities during her reign including Cancer Research UK and British Red Cross, helping raise more than £1.5 billion.
Married to Philip Mountbatten, Prince of Greece and Denmark, Her Majesty leaves behind four children; Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.
Again, Team Yalla would like to offer our deepest sympathies and our condolences at this sad time to all the British citizens across the world and in Abu Dhabi.
