Al Ain saw showers on Sunday.
It’s quite unusual for rain to fall across the UAE during the summer months, but there have been some spectacular downpours, especially here in Abu Dhabi when we witnessed an exceptional deluge earlier this year, with the garden city of Al Ain taking the brunt.
Yesterday (7 August) also saw the sky open as rainfall was recorded over several areas, with the National Centre of meteorology reporting downpours over Al Hair area and Al Shiwayb, with rain also reported in Al Hiyar in Al Ain.

Three directional winds
According to ‘The ‘Unofficial’ UAE Weather and Info Group’ run by Howard Townsend on Facebook, more showers could pop up anywhere across the UAE today, Monday, with heavy downpours expected in some places.
Does that mean the weather in Abu Dhabi is about to have us reaching for our brollies?
Well, that’s not clear just yet, but according to Howard’s post in ‘The ‘Unofficial’ UAE Weather and Info Group’, “Three directions of wind [are] affecting us at this time…”
Howard goes on to say how “The Southern winds will take precedence and push deeply North into UAE. This will have the effect of creating a temperature differential line near the Gulf coast so that when the usual afternoon heat convection kicks in, we could see showers popping up anywhere.”
According to Howard, the “probability of heavy showers” within the defined red areas (see below) are quite high or, as he points out “definite”.
