Sheikh Zayed road closure, free bike rentals and all you need to know ahead of Dubai Ride this weekend
Ready to get pedalling across Dubai this weekend? Dubai Ride is making its highly anticipated return and here’s your ultimate guide to it.
The annual cycling event will take place this Sunday 10 November as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), with numerous residents pedalling through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks along Sheikh Zayed Road and beyond.
Sheikh Zayed Road closure for Dubai Ride
That also means Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed during the event, from 5am when the routes open, with cyclists starting at 6.15am and finishing at 8am. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes or plan early days, as roads will only safely open at 8.15am.
The major highway will also be closed briefly on Sunday 24 November for the Dubai Run. The last groups for the 10km and 5km races start at 7:30am and 8am, respectively, so expect road access to return later in the morning.
As of this writing, the Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has not yet announced alternative routes or when the roads are expected to reopen, however, last year, the road closures began at 4am and reopened at 10am.
Free bike rentals for Dubai Ride
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has teamed up with Careem to offer free bike rentals for residents and tourists participating in the Dubai Ride event.
Participants can rent bikes for free from two pop-up stations near the Museum of the Future and the Financial Centre Road, using the code DR24 on the Careem app.
The bikes are available on a first-come, first-served basis from 2am to 8am on 10 November. Participants can also pick up bikes from any of Careem’s 197 stations across Dubai.
While card details are required for security, no charges will apply for bike rentals. Participants must bring their own helmets and register on the Dubai Ride website.
