RTA just announced partial road closure of this major bridge until next year

Dubai Al Maktoum Bridge

One of Dubai’s busiest bridges is about to face partial closure until 2025 according to the RTA

While the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has been busy opening up new roads to ease traffic, they’ve also announced partial road closure of this key bridge. Al Maktoum Bridge will be closed during certain times due to some maintenance work.

Motorists take note of the closure timings, which are from 11pm to 5am from Monday to Saturday and a full 24-hour closure over the weekends on Sundays.

The closure will be in effect until 16 January 2025 and the RTA has urged motorists to plan their journey in advance and take alternative routes to reach your destination on time during the bridge closure time.

Since opening in 1962, Al Maktoum Bridge has been the oldest of the five crossings over Dubai Creek, linking Deira and Bur Dubai. As it’s one of the busiest, it also undergoes regular maintenance as part of the RTA’s efforts to keep the infrastructure of bridges, roads, transportation system in good shape.

Al Maktoum Bridge is a sophisticated movable bridge fitted with hydraulic pumps that enable it to open and close. This functionality is crucial for facilitating maritime navigation in the Dubai Creek, allowing ships and high boats to pass underneath. This feature simplifies operational checks of vital machinery and routine inspections, including the monitoring of parts that require lubrication.
