Both bridges have dedicated bike racks and also feature hi-tech electromechanical, firefighting and remote monitoring systems.
The move is part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) broader initiative to construct seven footbridges across the city..
“The locations of footbridges are chosen according to key parameters that include pedestrian incident spots, traffic intensity and the movement of people between the two sides of the street as well as the distance to the nearest pedestrian crossing, locations of public bus stops, markets, commercial centres, and government and private entities,” says Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA.
