No vaccine? No travel for citizens says UAE authorities

The measures come into effect on 10 January.

Citizens of the UAE who are not vaccinated will not be able to travel abroad it has been announced.

The decision taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority means that any citizen who has not received their booster dose will be prohibited from leaving the country from 10 January 2022.

However, the rule does not apply to those medically exempted from receiving the vaccine.

The news is the latest in a series of announcements that has seen Abu Dhabi and the UAE tighten restrictions in response to the growing number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country.

The UK has been removed from Abu Dhabi’s green travel list meaning passengers arriving from the country will have to undergo a PCR test on day four and day eight of their stay as well as a PCR test at Abu Dhabi International Airport upon arrival.

Entry requirements into the emirate from within the UAE have also been updated with a green pass on the Al Hosn app needed to cross the border.

Members of the public who are unvaccinated wishing to gain entry into Abu Dhabi must conduct a PCR test within 96 hours of their journey.

All entrants into Abu Dhabi from within the UAE will also undergo an examination from EDE scanners to search for any possible symptoms of COVID-19.

At the time of writing, 100 per cent of the UAE’s population had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 jab with more than 92 per cent being considered fully vaccinated.

There are currently more than 18,000 active cases of COVID-19 in the UAE.
