UAE students and staff required to undergo a negative PCR test to attend first day of school

All pupils and staff can attend school trips provided they present an Al Hosn green pass.

All students aged 12 years and above as well as administrative and educational staff will be required to obtain a negative PCR test that does not exceed 96 hours from the first day of school it has been announced.

The news revealed by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority today (Tuesday 23 August) means private and public school pupils will need a PCR test result by next Monday (29 August).

All pupils and staff, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, can take part in schools trips provided they can present a green pass on their Al Hosn app with face mask wearing strictly enforced in closed spaces and buses.

It is the latest update to COVID-19 rules relating to education in the UAE.

In April, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge removed classroom and bubble closure requirements with Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority stating that schools in Dubai would continue to offer distance learning in certain situations.

To date more than 180 million COVID-19 PCR tests have been conducted with almost 25 million vaccine doses being administered.
