Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship to be held in Abu Dhabi

Tournament will be played in November.

Women golf enthusiasts of the UAE will feel like they have nailed a hole-in-one with the news that 2021 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) Championship will be staged in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament which will showcase the best in female golfing talent from the region will be held at the iconic Abu Dhabi Golf Club from 10-13 November.

Chef executive of The R&A, Martin Slumbers, described Abu Dhabi as a fantastic location for the 2021 tournament.

He said: “After the disruption caused by the pandemic over the last 18 months, we are excited to be staging the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific championship at such a fantastic venue in Abu Dhabi.

“It is more important than ever to provide opportunities for elite women amateurs to compete in Asia-Pacific and we look forward to another thrilling championship in November.”

It’s the latest in exciting news for the UAE’s golf fraternity with last month’s announcement that the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club will stage the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship for men which will double up as a qualifier for the Masters Tournament and Open Championship The WAAP.

The competition will be run for the first time since 2019 when Yuka Yasuda walked away with the championship.
