We strive to nurture independent learners and critical thinkers, with the skills to form lasting relationships with others and the ability to manage themselves in any situation. While academic excellence is at the core of our teaching program (Horizon English School results rank us in the top 0.5% of schools in the UK and we were recently recognized as being one of the top 25 schools in the UAE), we are not an exams factory and our emphasis is on the well-rounded child, with the strength and self-belief to make mistakes and then to learn from them. Music, sport, art and design, and performance, all have an integral part to play in our curriculum and we strongly believe that every child has something to offer.

We now have over 1,000 children at Horizon but continue to tailor our learning to make sure that each child feels included, stimulated and encouraged to develop their own passions and interests. We are always looking to change and improve the learning environments for the children and in recent years we have built a STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Moral) room, developed our inclusion department, enhanced our sports facilities and provided innovative outdoor playground spaces.

Almost all of our class teachers come from British schools and are British trained, which reflects our commitment to the British curriculum, and all have a minimum of two to three years’ teaching experience, ensuring that the school can benefit from their wisdom and best UK teaching practices.

When our students complete Year 6, they transition to a range of schools, however our sister schools, RGS Guildford, Dubai and Horizon International School, offer a stepping stone for Horizon children to remain within the Cognita family of schools. Whether returning to a secondary school in the UK or transitioning to another international school, the quality of education that students receive at Horizon sets them up perfectly for the next phase.

In Star International, children are taught how a growth mindset can open doors such that they can independently be responsible for their learning. Through exposure to this mindset they will be empowered to work independently, investigate, question, debate, trial new things, make mistakes and learn from them. Children in effect, become risk takers and are resilient in their learning.

They adopt a positive ‘I Can’ attitude to learning, understanding that if they can’t find a solution one way, they have to be resilient and try again. Through the avenue of data analysis of CAT 4 and GL tests, children will understand their strengths and areas for development. They will understand effective strategies that they can use to effectively improve their learning, giving them a holistic skill platform to make that positive impact in the local, national and global contexts.

Star International Mirdif aspires to create children who have an ’I CAN’  attitude where there are no limits to learning. The students are encouraged to lead their academic careers by the school’s STAR values. The values invite children to consider their actions and challenge them to develop relationships, confidence, leadership, responsibility and learning. These feed into the house system, where the children are rewarded with house points for exemplifying the values of the school
