Welcome to this month’s column of The Sideline.
Firstly, congratulations to Chelsea FC and the Abu Dhabi Local Organising Committee for a successful FIFA Club World Cup event.
It has only whetted our appetite for what is to come in November.
Here is a rundown of what is happening in the sporting community over the next month.
UAE Tour
The UAE Tour 2022, the one and only world cycling tour in the Middle East, rolls into town from the 20 to 26 February.
Cycling enthusiasts can keep their eyes peeled for two time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar and other cycling superstars as they race through the country from Madinat Zayed, Hudayriyat Island, Ajman, Fujairah Fort, Ras al Khaimah Corniche, Expo 2020 and ending at Jebel Hafeet on 26 February.
Abu Dhabi residents can watch stage two at the launch event for Wolfi’s flagship store at Hudayriyat Island from 9.30am.

ADEK Sports Cup
The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) will hold their inaugural ADEK Sports Cup, a school football tournament for players born 2008-2009, on March 5 and 6.
A total of 64 boys and girls school teams will be expected for the qualifiers at Abu Dhabi Cricket, Khalifa City with the top two teams competing in the final to be held at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium, home of Al Jazira FC.
Look out for more information from your school leaders and prepare to represent or support your school.
Gulf Multi Sport Batman Run
Put your cape on, lace up and join the Warner Bros. World™ Abu Dhabi BATMAN RUN on Saturday 5 March.
Participants can choose between a 2km or 5km course to run or walk on Yas Island. The start and finish line will be outside the main entrance of Warner Bros. World™ Abu Dhabi taking in a loop of a mainly flat course.
All participants aged 16 and above must be vaccinated and will be required to present a negative PCR test result on their Al Hosn app taken within 96 hours of the race day.

Special Olympics Unified programs
Special Olympics UAE has a range of sporting initiatives for People of Determination and partners to participate in for free.
From robotics to football to cycling and soon to include a running club, Abu Dhabi has never been so inclusive and you can find out more at Special Olympics UAE.
In addition, schools are encouraged to join the Unified Champions Schools programme where registered schools will receive support for teachers and further opportunities for students. Ask your school if they have registered.
Haddins – same name, new look
Haddins, Abu Dhabi’s favourite functional gym is rebranding after 12 years of operation at Zayed Sports City and is very excited to finally share the new and upgraded changes.
The new gym will be launching on Saturday 5 March at Zayed Sports City with a free open day session between 9am to 11am as an opportunity to reveal all things new.
You can expect a new, enhanced programme, refurbished gym space, apparel and new membership offering.
