The plan is a part of the Net Zero by 2050 initiative.
Farmers in Abu Dhabi are being encouraged to adopt ‘climate-smart’ practices by moving towards recycled or desalinated water sources for cultivating crops.
Titled The Comprehensive Plan for Agricultural Sustainability, is a plan laid out by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) which aims to increase productivity and economic returns while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The measures which were developed in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) will also encourage the planting of crops that consume less water.
This is the latest initiative launched by the UAE government in its goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Other goals in the Net Zero by 2050 initiative includes generating 55 per cent of Abu Dhabi’s electricity from clean sources by 2025 and cutting the country’s CO2 emission from 40 million tons in 2020 to approximately 20 million tons in 2025.
