There are five race categories in which to part at Swim for Clean Seas.
We all have seen the legendary Wild Abu Dhabi: Turtles of Abu Dhabi documentary and you can now play your own part in helping Abu Dhabi’s marine wildlife at the Swim For Clean Seas event.
Taking place Sunday (27 March), the event will see swimmers, environmentalists and everyone in between take to the beach and sea at Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort to raise funds and awareness of ocean pollution.
Launched in 2018 by Felicia and Almer Agmyren this will be the third edition of the event and will feature engaging talks from marine biologists that explore why we must strive to protect our ocean resources including Azraq, a non-profit marine conservation organisation that aims to protect, defend and conserve marine life in the UAE and EN-WWF who will host educational youth activities throughout the morning.
Open to swimmers aged eight and above, people of abilities can take to the water and challenge themselves against the waves over 200, 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200-metre races.
Beginning at 7am, the social but competitive event will see prizes awarded for winners alongside a raffle draw.
Speaking on the announcement Felicia Agmyren said; “We all know that the oceans not only cover 70 per cent of our planet, but also provide around 70 per cent of the vital oxygen we breathe – so it’s vital we nurture, protect and maintain our ocean health.
“Swim for Clean Seas is a way to engage people from all across the community. We invite them to enjoy a healthy swim and learn about small changes that we can all easily make in our daily lives that will help our oceans to thrive.”
Only 150 swimmers are able to take part and with the previous event reaching full capacity, early registration is strongly encouraged.
