Dubai Weekends: Brilliant things to do for kids this spring break

Head to Dubai for the weekend with the little ones with Yalla’s under-the-radar fun things to do.

The spring break is almost here and you are probably wondering what to do with the kids. With Dubai not so far away, it is the perfect opportunity to grab the kids and head there for the weekend.

And with that in mind, we roundup a few things to do while there which might not be on your usual radar.

FOOTGOLF FUN

Footgolf Dubai

While Address Montgomerie is one of the ultimate addresses for those who take golf very seriously, it is also home to Footgolf, an ingenious combination of football and golf.

A brilliantly fun way to get in some exercise, players aim to kick a football from the tee into a 52cm hole in as few shots as possible. High jinks ensue as balls wander off, escaping the course’s impeccably landscaped gardens and ending up in hazards like lakes and bunkers. All you’ll need to bring along are trainers and a sense of humour.

IMPROVISED KIDS’ STORYTIME

Things To Do In Dubai Weekend

Courtyard Playhouse is an independent theatre and performing arts training centre that hosts everything from acting classes and improv workshops to National Theatre Live screenings and productions by amateur theatre groups.

Head there on a Saturday for the highly interactive Improvised Kids’ Storytime sessions, which are super popular among families as children aged four to 11 can get in on the action volunteering on stage or directing the actors, resulting in a wonderfully whimsical afternoon every time. Bonus: No two sessions are alike.

HISTORY OF CINEMA MUSEUM

History Of Cinema Museum

A hidden gem in every sense of the word, both kids and parents are going to really enjoy this intimately sized space rife with mechanical wonders. Open by appointment only and discreetly located in Barsha Heights, the History of Cinema Museum chronicles the progression of visual entertainment from its inception to the advent of early cinema by way of over 300 antiques, including a 1001 Arabian Nights themed magic lantern circa 1860.

Most appealing, however, are the interactive exhibits such as an 18th century peep box that you can peer into. A guided tour comes highly recommended.

MAZMI CAFÉ

Mazmi Cafe

And when you are ready to kickback, Yalla recommends you head to Dubai Creek where Mazmi Café awaits.

Owned by an Italian woman and her Emirati husband, this seriously underrated destination in old Dubai houses a café and a three-room bed and breakfast.

Frequented by those in need of a change of pace, the venue sits at the edge of Dubai Creek and serves fusion dishes inspired by the heritage of the two co-founders – homemade saffron gelato and hummus infused with basil and sun-dried tomatoes.

The café’s locale is seemingly frozen in time and evocative of the city’s origins as a trading port, and therefore is perfect for immersing the little ones in the history of Dubai.
