Sold for a record AED 1.01 million ($272,257), the Pure Gyr American ultra-white falcon became the most expensive bird auctioned in 19 years of Adihex, organisers said in a press release.

The exhibition, which began from 26 September and ran till 2 October, saw some of the rarest and most exquisite breeds of falcons on display. Drawing at least 1.5 million visitors, the annual exhibition provides breeders and merchants of captive-bred birds with the opportunity to sell directly to thousands of falconers.

The largest exhibition for hunting, equestrian & heritage preservation in the Middle East and Africa region has become an important part of the capital’s calendar. For many, it embodies some of the foundations of Emirati culture, activities and heritage that have not only survived for thousands of years, but provided a means of survival.

Under the theme of Sustainability and Heritage…A Reborn Aspiration, the event was organized by the Emirates Falconers’ Club. Apart from attracting local and global attendees, as well as promoting sustainable hunting, ADIHEX offers a unique opportunity for regional and international companies to participate with the aim of building a strong bilateral business relationship.
