Taking place over the weekend, the sky is about to get LIT
A hundred shooting stars per hour? Now that’s an event you don’t want to miss!
Thanks to the UAE’s location in the northern hemisphere, stargazing has always been an easy experience. But things are going to be a little out of the world this weekend with the biggest meteor shower of the year.
Mark 12 August on your calendars and gear up for the Perseids Meteor Shower!
It’s going to be beautiful, interesting, and above all – free.
For the uninitiated, Perseids are leftover pieces from Comet Swift-Tuttle, which was discovered in 1862.

According to NASA, Perseids are one of the most plentiful showers with about 50 to 100 meteors seen per hour.
While you could easily drive out to the desert and pick a cosy spot to sky-watch, there are some events for those looking to geek out a little harder.
In Dubai, the Dubai Astronomy Group is hosting a viewing event at Al Awir desert, with telescopes for that extra level-up.
Meanwhile, Sharjah’s Mleiha Archaeological Centre will also be hosting a Perseids Meteor shower-watching evening.
The event will start at 6pm at the Mleiha campsite, with refreshments and telescopes, as well as experts guiding you through the experience until 1am.
All you need is a spot from where to view the clear sky, and let your eyes adjust to the darkness for a moment before the ‘show begins’.
