Here’s all you need to know about the two-lane bridge being constructed for easier access to Dubai Harbour
If you’re a motorist in Dubai you’re no stranger to seemingly endless traffic. Things are about to take a turn for the better though, at least with the upcoming project at Dubai Harbour!
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded an AED 431 million project to develop the entry and exit points for Dubai Harbour, in partnership with Shamal Holding.
The project entails the construction of a two-lane bridge in each direction spanning 1,500 metres extending from Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour, home to the largest marina in the region.
The bridge will accommodate up to 6,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and will cut the travel time to the site from 12 minutes to three minutes.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA says, “the bridge extends from the 5th intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road (near the American University in Dubai) to Dubai Harbour Street¸ passing through the intersection of Al Naseem Street with Al Falak Street and crosses over the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street up to Dubai Harbour.
“The project also includes surface improvements at four intersections along the bridge: the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, the intersection of Al Falak Street with Al Naseem Street, the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street with Al Naseem Street, and Dubai Harbour Street.”
Dubai Harbour is located between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, close to iconic landmarks like Burj Al Arab.
It is also home to Skydive Dubai, featuring a 770-metre-long runway that extends 550 metres into the Arabian Gulf. A 1.5-kilometre-long development project is also currently underway, featuring a residential complex with 24 towers and about 7,500 apartments.
Additionally, an AED 689 million contract assigned for a major project aimed at easing traffic along the dreaded Hessa Street is also underway. Running 4.5 km from the intersection with Sheikh Zayed Road to the intersection with Al Khail Road, the main objective is to revamp four major intersections namely, Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road.
