Dubai Road Traffic Authority announces major upgrade

Dubai road upgrade

This new upgrade is covering the 1,500-metre stretch between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Street

Dubai’s Al Safa Street is set for a major transformation as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launches an extensive upgrade project designed to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity.

Covering the 1,500-metre stretch between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Street, this initiative forms part of a larger plan to modernise vital roadways in Dubai, supporting the city’s fast-paced urban development and vision for smart, sustainable transportation.

The upgrade will feature the construction of two new bridges and two tunnels, totaling 3,120 metres, alongside widened surface roads and improved intersections with advanced traffic signal systems.

Once completed, travel time along Al Safa Street is expected to drop dramatically; from 12 minutes to just three

The road’s capacity will also double, accommodating up to 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions compared to the current 6,000.

This project promises to significantly improve traffic flow and ease daily commutes for motorists navigating one of Dubai’s busiest corridors.
