Expect longer queues and busy terminals as DXB braces for record-breaking passenger traffic
As summer winds down, Dubai International Airport (DXB) is preparing for a major surge in passenger traffic with over 3.6 million travelers expected up to 25 August.
With families and students heading back for the new academic year, airport officials are urging passengers to arrive early, plan ahead, and make the most of smart travel tools.
Record-Breaking Traffic Ahead
DXB, already the world’s busiest international airport, expects up to 290,000 passengers per day during peak periods, with Friday, August 15 tipped as the busiest.
The airport saw more than 46 million passengers in the first half of 2025, and this latest wave is expected to push numbers even higher.
What Travelers Should Do
Arrive early:
flydubai passengers: at least 4 hours before departure
Other airlines: around 3 hours ahead of take-off

Use the Dubai Metro:
Avoid road traffic altogether by using the Dubai Metro, which connects directly to Terminals 1 and 3, making airport access easier during peak times.
Try Smart Gates:
Families with children over 12 can use the Smart Gate system at passport control to skip the manual process, speeding things up at immigration.
Pack smart & check baggage rules:
Before heading out, double-check your airline’s baggage allowance. Know the weight limits and make sure liquids and gels follow security rules.
Use DXB Express Maps:
Get live flight updates and gate information via QR codes posted throughout the terminals—an easy way to stay one step ahead during the rush.
