Here's where traffic improvements are happening across the city
If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in traffic wishing Dubai’s roads flowed just a little smoother, there’s some good news.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out a series of traffic improvements at 28 locations across the emirate this summer, with works taking place between July and September 2026.
The projects are being carried out during the quieter school holiday period to minimise disruption while making some of the city’s busiest roads safer, quicker and more efficient.
The upgrades cover four school zones, three major development areas, and 21 locations across Dubai, all aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing congestion and keeping pace with the city’s rapid growth.
One of the biggest projects is the expansion of Emirates Road, where two new lanes will be added along a 5km stretch between Sharjah and Al Amardi Street.
As one of Dubai’s busiest routes linking the emirate with its neighbours, the road regularly experiences heavy peak-hour traffic.
Once complete, the additional lanes are expected to cut journey times by around 25 per cent during the busiest periods.
Elsewhere, several well-known junctions are also getting an upgrade. Drivers can expect improvements at the intersection of Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive in Business Bay.
Works are also planned on Latifa bint Hamdan Street near Al Quoz Industrial Area and along Ras Al Khor Road towards Al Khail Road, helping improve traffic flow through some of the city’s busiest commercial districts.
Residential neighbourhoods haven’t been forgotten either. A new lane will be added at the junction of Al Khawaneej Street and Al Amardi Street, while the right-turn from Ras Al Khor Road towards Dubai–Al Ain Road will be widened from one lane to two.
Meanwhile, Algeria Street in Al Mizhar 4 will see a wider traffic lane added before the labour accommodation entrance to improve vehicle movement and reduce queues.
With the new school year just around the corner, the RTA is also using the quieter summer months to improve access around schools.
New parking spaces will be introduced at Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2, while Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif will also benefit from additional parking to help ease congestion during the morning and afternoon school runs.
According to the RTA, the locations weren’t chosen at random. Each project is based on detailed traffic studies, field surveys, intelligent transport systems and public feedback, allowing the authority to target areas where small changes can make a noticeable difference.
So while a few temporary roadworks may be unavoidable over the coming weeks, the long-term goal is simple: smoother journeys, safer roads and a better-connected Dubai.
