Specialist Plastic Surgeon at Snö Bodyworx, Dr Bruno Montenegro on why plastic surgery is booming during the pandemic and how to regain the perfect shape after having a baby.
Dr. Bruno has more than 11 years of experience under his belt and is accredited by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery. Licensed by both Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Department of Health (DOH – Abu Dhabi), his Medical Residency in Plastic Surgery began in Sao Paulo, Brazil at Hospital do Servidor Estadual, a giant in Latin America that is responsible for the care of approximately three million people.
Working with his highly skilled team, Dr. Bruno specialises in developing individualised treatment plans to improve natural characteristics or correct problems related to the face, nose, body contour and breasts.
Today, he has noticed a surge in bookings for surgical and non-surgical treatments following lockdown. Dr. Bruno puts this down to two reasons. “Because people are now wearing masks that cover a good portion of their face. Before we wore masks, people who had rhinoplasty, for example, would have to walk around post-surgery with short-term swelling and discoloration for all to see. Now we wear masks that help cover post-surgery effects, so people can continue with their daily lives as usual whereas previously they would most likely stay home.”
The other reason for the surge is that many people today conduct meetings through a screen, aptly named ‘zoom boom’, which gives us ample opportunity to scrutinise how we look to others “They notice their frowns, their lips or perhaps their nose is crooked,” he says. “Many people then research treatments and find plastic surgeon practitioners to help enhance their looks.”
Mummy makeovers
Dr Bruno also offers surgical procedures that can help individuals look and feel more positive about their body, not least women who recently had a baby. “Pregnancy and breastfeeding can have common side effects on the body, such as loose skin, stretched muscles, and sagging breast,” he says. “Sometimes, these cannot be changed with exercise and diet alone. Cosmetic surgery can be a good option to return the body to its pre-pregnancy look.
A “mummy makeover” is a common term for a combination of procedures that address common side effects of pregnancy all over the body. This procedure is used to restore the figure to a pre-baby shape after having children, bringing the body closer to its pre-pregnancy appearance. This procedure is not a substitute for weight loss, and should not be treated as such.
A full mommy makeover includes a tummy tuck, breast enhancement, and occasionally liposuction. “Sometimes, liposuction is performed instead of a tummy tuck, depending on the patient. The procedures are performed during a single operation, so that there is only one recovery period.”
Dr. Bruno stresses the importance of researching an experience and qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon and attending face-to-face consultations. “A professional plastic surgeon will insist on several meetings to get to know the reasons why you want surgery before embarking on any procedures,” he says.
