The seven emirates of the UAE will be connected by Etihad Rail.
Train travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai has reached a major milestone with the completion of construction of the track linking the two emirates.
Spanning some 256km, the Abu Dhabi to Dubai railway encompasses some 29 bridges, 60 crossings and is the largest segment of The UAE Railway Programme that will connect the seven emirates of the country.

The final pieces of the track which required 47 million hours of work more than 13,000 workers were laid by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and Chairman of Etihad Rail.
His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed said: “The completion of the main railway will enhance the strategic position of the project at the transport and infrastructure levels, and contributes to the promotion of sustainable development in the UAE, and the consolidation of its position to remain in the first ranks at the regional and global levels.”

The UAE Railway Programme will see Rail Passenger Services connecting 11 cities around the country with estimated travel times between Abu Dhabi to Dubai and the capital to Fujairah being 50 minutes and 100 minutes respectively.
It is expected that some 36.5 million people will use the train services annually by 2030 and will help reduce the UAE’s carbon emissions by up to 80 per cent as the country aims to achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Currently, the Freight Rail service is only in operational, transporting goods and materials around the country.
