New work permit alert! You can now work as a private tutor in the UAE

If your kid needs some extra help post-school, or you’re looking to make a secondary income, this new work permit in the UAE is just what you were waiting for.

The UAE has officially launched a private tutor permit for teachers, professionals and other students offering lessons outside the school or college. The landmark move aims to curb ‘illegal practices’ and ‘regulate the sector’.

According to the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), the ‘private teacher work permit’ will protect the rights of teachers, and ensure students receive quality education.

The process for application is quite simple, and all those eligible include teachers from public and private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, students aged between 15 and 18 and university students.

You can apply for the permit free of charge through MoHRE’s smart app, website and e-services system.

You can offer private tuition for students in the UAE, individually or in groups, and generate income, provided a ‘code of conduct’ document approved by the Ministry is signed.

Dr. Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Mualla, Undersecretary for Academic Affairs of the Ministry of Education, said the two-year permit “aims to ensure the stability of the educational system and provide flexible options for students and parents that meet their needs and aspirations while maintaining discipline, quality, and efficiency in the educational process”.

Those caught offering private lessons without a permit will be subject to fines and penalties according to the UAE Federal law.
