Writer Jemma Nichols heads to Skin Laundry in Dubai to test their mild laser facials
I confess, I felt nervous before my Carbon Laser Facial, as the word “laser” can conjure up images of severe excavation work.
However, the summer heat and blasting AC have made my skin dry and congested, so I was keen to test the claims of Skin Laundry, which promises safe and effective mild laser facials with zero downtime but real results.
A global name, Skin Laundry opened two branches in Dubai in 2020.
The clinics have been designed to resemble a California beach bungalow, bright and airy with chic interiors.
What is Carbon Laser Facial?
It has the calming feel of a spa, but, as I’m told by some of their loyal clientele, this isn’t a place to while away the day; they boast medical-grade technology and treatments that last only 15 to 20 minutes, so are ideal for a quick lunchtime fix.
Rose, my knowledgeable therapist, immediately puts me at ease.
She explains that lasers rejuvenate skin cells, boost collagen production, and improve clarity and fade fine lines.

Their signature facials are suitable for all skin types and can offer transformative results if done regularly.
I lie on the treatment bed, and Rose gives my face a deep cleanse before I don my protective glasses. She then starts the laser (a device which looks a bit like a metal wand) and slowly hovers it over my skin to exfoliate and stimulate new collagen.
This is repeated four times, and I don’t feel a thing!
Next, a black carbon lotion is spread all over my face. Again, Rose uses the laser, but this time I hear a faint crackling noise which is the sound of the carbon reacting to the laser – the carbon lotion attracts more oils and dirt and helps remove pigment.
Though slightly sceptical that you can get results from a facial that takes only 15 minutes with little downtime, I was impressed. My skin was immediately brighter and supple. Even after a week, my complexion has a definite glow.
The key advice is consistency, with monthly membership packages available. Skin Laundry also advises no tanning, sweating, or other facial treatments for up to two weeks prior and post a laser facial, plus no makeup eight to 12 hours after treatment.
