Easter services have will take place online in some cases

Several churches in Dubai have temporarily adjusted or suspended in-person services over the Easter weekend due to heightened regional security concerns and broader instability across the Middle East.

From today, Good Friday, 3 April, some religious institutions have taken precautionary steps in coordination with local authorities to prioritise safety and ensure that large gatherings are managed carefully during a sensitive period.

Church communities in Dubai have been informed that many services will no longer take place in person for the time being, with parishioners being encouraged to avoid visiting church premises.

Instead, several congregations are shifting to online-only services where possible, allowing worshippers to continue observing Easter celebrations remotely.

The changes affect multiple Christian denominations, including Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant communities, many of which typically see large attendances during Easter.

Under normal circumstances, churches in Dubai often experience high turnout during Holy Week, with services drawing significant crowds. This year, however, attendance has been limited or redirected online as a precautionary measure.

The temporary closures and service adjustments are being implemented in line with guidance from local regulatory authorities, reflecting a broader approach to ensuring public safety during periods of regional uncertainty.

While the exact duration of these measures has not been clearly defined, updates are expected to be issued by individual churches as the situation develops.

Some churches in other parts of the UAE have also introduced modified arrangements rather than full closures, such as limiting entry numbers or holding services indoors under controlled conditions. This approach aims to balance religious observance with safety considerations.

Overall, the temporary measures reflect a cautious response to evolving regional circumstances, with safety and community well-being being prioritised while still allowing religious practices to continue in adapted formats.
