Dubai police AI radars monitoring busy highway traffic.

Dubai’s smart traffic system is cracking down and here’s the full list of offences, fines, and penalties

Dubai Police has rolled out a new wave of AI-powered traffic radars capable of identifying a wide range of driving violations, far beyond just speeding.

Strategically placed across major roads and intersections, these systems are part of a growing effort to promote safer driving habits and reduce accidents.

Here’s a breakdown of the eight key violations these AI radars now monitor, along with fines, black points, and impoundment penalties.

Speeding

Violating speed limits is one of the most common and dangerous offences. Fines and penalties vary depending on how much the limit is exceeded:

Over 80 km/h

Fine: AED 3,000

Black Points: 23

Impoundment: 60 days

Over 60 km/h

Fine: AED 2,000

Black Points: 12

Impoundment: 30 days

Up to 50 km/h – AED 1,000

Up to 40 km/h – AED 700

Up to 30 km/h – AED 600

Up to 20 km/h – AED 300

Running a Red Light

Jumping a red light is a high-risk offence with severe consequences:

Fine: AED 1,000

Black Points: 12

Vehicle impoundment: 30 days

In Dubai, vehicle release after a red-light offence requires payment of AED 50,000, as per Decree No. 30 of 2023.

Lane Discipline Violations

AI radars now detect reckless or careless lane changes, including:

Driving on the hard shoulder

Overtaking across solid lines

Sudden swerving

Tailgating

Fine for improper lane use: AED 400

To avoid tailgating penalties, follow the “two-second rule” for safe distance.

Distracted Driving (Using a Phone)

The system identifies distracted drivers through hand movements and screen light detection:

Fine: AED 800

Black Points: 4

Vehicle impoundment: 30 days

Seat Belt Violations

Even in low-light conditions, AI can differentiate between clothing and a properly worn seat belt:

Fine: AED 400

Black Points: 4

Illegal Window Tinting

Over-tinted or unauthorised tinting (especially on windshields) is a traffic violation:

Fine: AED 1,500

Possible vehicle impoundment

In Dubai, releasing a vehicle due to over-tinting requires a AED 10,000 payment under Decree No. 30 of 2023.

Tinting must not exceed 50 per cent on side/rear windows; windshield tinting must be under 15cm (5.5 inches) from the top.

Noisy or Illegally Modified Vehicles

Vehicles modified for louder sound or enhanced speed face heavy penalties:

Fine: AED 2,000

Black Points: 12

Vehicle release fee: Up to AED 10,000

Driving with Expired Vehicle Registration

Driving with an expired registration? Expect to face the following:

Fine: AED 500

Black Points: 4

Impoundment: 7 days

Final Note:

Dubai Police urges all motorists to stay informed, drive mindfully, and respect traffic laws.

The city’s AI-powered enforcement is fast, accurate, and unforgiving, so avoid costly mistakes and help keep the roads safe for everyone.
