The new Meydan station will connect with the Dubai Metro Gold Line
Dubai’s rail network is getting another major boost, and this time it’s bringing Etihad Rail closer to the city centre.
A second Etihad Rail passenger station is planned for Dubai, with the future stop set to be located in Meydan and integrated directly with the upcoming Dubai Metro Gold Line.
The exact location and opening date haven’t been announced yet, but the station is expected to connect with the Metro, while future plans also include links to buses, cycling routes and walkways.
There could also be a handy Nol card upgrade on the way.
Integration between Nol and Etihad Rail is ready to be implemented, meaning passengers could eventually move between Dubai’s public transport network and national rail without having to juggle different systems.
The news comes as Dubai continues to push ahead with a huge programme of rail and public transport projects.
The Dubai Metro Blue Line is currently under construction and is scheduled to open on 9 September 2029, while the Gold Line is due to open on 9 September 2032.
The Gold Line will add a significant chunk to Dubai’s Metro network, with the expansion set to increase the network by 82 per cent.
There’s also the planned Airport Express Line, which will eventually connect Dubai International Airport with Al Maktoum International Airport.
The 55-kilometre route is planned to have five stations, linking into the existing Metro network and connecting areas including Al Jaddaf, Jumeirah Village Circle and Dubai South.
Work on the Airport Express is currently at the study stage, with an international consultant being appointed to look at how the line can connect with the wider transport network.
Put all of these projects together and Dubai’s future transport map is looking very different from today.
The idea is to make moving around the city easier without relying so heavily on cars, with trains, Metro, buses, walking and cycling all working as part of one connected network.
For anyone living in or visiting Dubai, that could eventually mean more options, fewer car journeys and a much easier way to get across the city and beyond.
