Two days of COP28 in Dubai and the highlights so far include a family photo, the launch of a new fun and so much more!

COP28 proceedings are in full swing and the entire world’s eyes are right here on Dubai.

With the official opening ceremony concluded and all heads of states currently making national statements, here are a few key takeaways from the early days of COP28 in Dubai.

Starting with the USD 30 billion pledge made by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan towards a climate-focused fund. Unveiled at the opening ceremony of COP28, the fund, named ALTÉRRA, will drive forward international efforts to create a fairer climate finance system.

Furthermore, the ‘Loss and Damage’ negotiations have resulted in the UAE contributing USD 100 million to climate disaster fund arrangements.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced that the funds will contribute towards helping vulnerable communities and building resilience for people suffering the devastating impacts of climate change.

While macro levels continue to be supervised by governments, there are several significant moves being made on the side.

One of which includes the launch of key new global coalition Trillion Bees to help protect the world’s pollinators by unifying force of science-led individuals, businesses and organisations committed to promoting Bee The Change.

Founded by materials science company PANGAIA, the initiative was launched officially at COP28 in Dubai to promote creation of healthier ecosystems.

Marking an important shift for ocean and marine conservation in general, Goumbook also successfully launched the MENA Oceans Network on the first day of COP28.

The multi-stakeholder network is positioned to work as a regional impact hub, strengthen public-private community partnerships and accelerate the pace of ocean action through a cross-sectoral approach.
