Visiting the COP28? Dubai to extend metro timings, and bus routes

The COP28 Presidency is urging faster and more sustainable travel using extended metro timings and new bus routes

Running from 30 November to 12 December, the upcoming COP28 has all of the UAE’s sustainable engines revved up for some time now.

If you weren’t planning to visit before, the free Green Zone Day Pass is a definite reason to check out the COP28 in Dubai now! To make transport to the site at Expo City easier, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has added some metro timings, new bus routes, and new eco-friendly modes of transport.

Dubai Metro will operate from 5am to 1am throughout the conference days. Additionally, special edition Nol cards have been introduced for COP28 delegates, encouraging them to use public transportation for free during the conference.

Complimentary pre-charged Nol cards will also be issued to young participants attending the 18th United Nation Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY18).

Over 10,000 hybrid taxis and 1,000 electric luxury vehicles will serve visitors to the global event, which can be hailed within Expo City through the Hala Taxi platform. Users can also opt for services through platforms like Uber, Careem and Yango.

New bus routes for COP28

Additionally, the RTA has introduced new bus routes tailored to transport delegates and organisers to major locations such as JBR, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta and other key areas in the emirate, facilitating mobility beyond the operational hours of the Dubai Metro during COP28.

The internal transit plan includes the deployment of 67 biofuel-powered buses, complemented by 10 electric buses to serve visitors at four stops within Expo City.

To facilitate easy access for these vehicles, there will be four designated stops within Expo City, strategically located at Opportunity Gate, Mobility Gate, Sustainability Gate and the Metro Gate.

Plans have also been put in place to manage service points and regulate traffic flow on the surrounding roads and intersections. Additionally, alternative strategies have been devised to address potential traffic congestion scenarios during the event.
